How PSX games were cracked?

Post by locarno » January 19th, 2022, 7:48 am

How PSX games were cracked? I tought modchip and copied cd was only needed to play game. But I remember few releases with custom intro in it from cracking group. So what exacly they changed on game files? Modchip wasn't enough?

Hope direct link is aloud, First mod chips literally just injected constantly even while playing the game.

Sony then added a check to see if the region key was still being injected after the game booted, if it was then they knew a mod chip was present.

Hence the stealth mod chip, once the game booted the chip slept till restarted, I'm sure the usa may have had somthing else but in the UK we then had LibCrypt https://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_pr ... ames.shtml and this is where you would of seen groups from the day bypassing it ect.

This is brief and sure there maybe more.
