Re: About a serious security issue with the forum

Not to mention that despite all those "countermeasures" spambots are still running amok, so I question the usefulness of all those checks
I'll go out on a limb here and say that ever since PSIO has moved to its own forum admins don't really give a shit about this place anymore.

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Yeah, but at this point I'd say to consider this project done and call it a day, this game already got way more attention than it deserves
Was fun removing a little bit of rust nonetheless :)

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Good job everyone 8-) As for the track at 24:19, you might want to re-listen to the experiment I tried in this post ; though, given that it's a leftover track, there's probably no way to make it sound 100% correct (even more so if we consider that not even the used tracks hardly play correctly in-ga...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Hahah, I noticed that too... this game definitely needed more playtesting  Though if we want to cut this horribly broken game some slack, audio glitches happen from time to time even to masterpieces: https://youtu.be/t-YgL0duths?t=16 Happened to me as well on the antique shop section IIRC while...

Re: Does NO$PSX works on Windows 98 ?

What's the point in trying to run an emulator on a Win98 machine?
If you dropped the real hardware idea you're better off running it on a modern computer while setting up PsyQ on a WinXP virtual machine (or using both PsyQ and the emulator on the same virtual machine).

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

@Squaresoft: making your notes available would be great, thanks :) Anyway I think hacks are mandatory, since when it comes to PSX games the parameters are more often than not hardcoded and the code in general tends to follow the "performance over tidyness" philosophy, making it almost impo...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

If it's allright, I'll write down your name as contributor to this, once I upload all the music to YT, is that okay ? Of course I'd appreciate that, even though like I said I didn't do a whole lot, haha. I should have some more free time in September in case you have similar projects in mind though...

Re: TTY output with real hardware (how ?)

IIRC, CatFlap displays TTY messages once you invoke it to send the exe to the PSX... I don't know if it works on Win9x OSes though.

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Nice going, I guess this is almost done so there's no point in me jumping in anymore (I'd have to continue reversing from the limited amount of stuff I figured out last week, and it wouldn't make any sense since SquareSoft already discovered pretty much everything on his own, minus the final details...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Nice :)
If you got how .XMs and .VABs are linked together I could try converting samples to PCM and import them inside XMs to see if they play fine.

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Probably, though at this point I'm thinking about taking the same approach used by the guy who made the music extractor for Driver and trying to create .xm files playable from pc rather than .PSFs, if you also want to do edits/remixes it should be the way to go. I don't know how much feasible it wou...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Yeah, but the 1st column is only about the volume, it's in no way related to frequency :D http://hitmen.c02.at/files/docs/psx/spu.txt (xx = $c0 + voice number) ------------------------------------------------------------- $1f801xx0 Volume Left $1f801xx2 Volume Right Volume mode: bit |0f|0e|0d 0c 0b ...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

This is what I figured out from this SPU I/O map: MG SPU Debug.jpg This may help you :D The part about the 2nd column being related to notes makes sense since that's the column indicating pitches/frequencies and sound addresses inside SPU RAM, but can you elaborate a bit more about the high to low ...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

@DD-Indeed: that tool takes it a step further and instead of creating PSF files converts ADPCM samples to pcm, then proceeds to insert them inside the .xm files to make them playable from pc... good stuff, thanks for the link :) We could recruit the guy to do the same thing with Martian Gothic, haha...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

I need to ask him about it and paste it over here, so you can read about it. That's terrific, thanks! Also, you should then think about developing the tool even further, with some other games as well Not sure about which tool you're talking about, but like I said at the beginning of this thread the...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Btw, when I asked some GameShark cheats for the game on GameHacking.org Discord channel, this one guy who provided those, also found some ways to play different tracks on the main menu, when I talked about this. Hm, did he also explain how to achieve that? In case he did I don't use Discord so I ha...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

@Squaresoft: would you mind sharing the .idb project file so that we can check things in parallel and confront any possible progress? I'd share mine as well, but you probably discovered all the stuff I did already. @DD-Indeed: if you happen to have any no$psx savestates in points of the game where d...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

I'm not on my main PC now, but IIRC there are 15 xm files extracted from UNI3.DAT, then again some of them might be unused by the game and left there since that seems to be common practice for PSX games :D

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

Good job at filtering them up; from what I've seen in the disassembly, the game selects lots of files by passing hardcoded values to certain functions (e.g. the function that selects which XM file to play), so I wouldn't be surprised if soundbanks are selected in a similar fashion (especially consid...

Re: Extracting custom container (.DAT) package from disc

I think that 32-bit field containing the value 0x24 is used for pretty much the same thing I'm using it: to discern a VAB entry containing both header and body from an entry consisting of a VH header followed by another entry which acts as the body (VB), so it makes sense to keep it (for PSF purpose...
