Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Yeah, I completely agree with emulators, and I was not a fan of having to formally rely on it only (and not hardware) for the thesis. Though, I did test everything on hardware while developing - I just "left that out" of the thesis. It's really interesting stuff that you mention, especiall...

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Yeah, that's the plan, and what I've been working on as well (but still, sound advice, so thanks!). It's progressing (very) slowly, but getting somewhere at least as the game jam is approaching. Looks like it's going to be another one of those times where I've been overly optimistic about what I can...

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Okay, encouraging I was just explaining why I was disagreeing with that "advice" - but that was probably just me over-analyzing it. Which I suppose makes the advice even more appropriate.

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Sorry, for the radio-silence, but this discussion has derailed a bit beyond what is super useful thesis, so I had to down-prioritize it (not saying it's not interesting and of value to me!), and I've been super busy with work, thesis and personal-life stuff. Super dope about the DHT documentary - I'...

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
It sounds like they had some cool things in DHT, and that those parts would definitely be part of a general-purpose engine. But to me is also a question about how much of this is exposed to a developer to change - i.e. is it all hardcoded in a way that the user gets very little say in how they can m...

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Thanks for your feedback - it sheds some light on things for me. You speak of the DHT engine being pretty generic, but I can't find any sources describing that in more detail. Would love to read about it if you have something. I don't doubt that it was used for the trilogy, and perhaps a few offshoo...

Re: Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
I don't know about the boot screen actually - haven't been (bothered) looking into ut yet. Pretty sure it doesn't happen on retail discs, but have to double check that. I'm using psn00bsdk which is using MKPSXISO which I'd assume would work properly, so maybe it's on my end? For this project I'm not...

Thesis about a PS1 Game Engine
Hello peeps! My name is Malte, and I'm pretty new around here, so I thought I'd say "hi" and talk a bit about what I'm up to :) The short version I'm doing a basic game engine/framework for the PlayStation 1 for my final Master's thesis. The (very) long version I'm taking a Master's degree...
